My Twin

Creating Sacred Space:

Sometimes we may feel that we are a mass of contradictions, confusing not only to others but also ourselves. Spend some time thinking about qualities about yourself that contradict one another. Do not be overly judgmental; these qualities can be "good" or "bad" qualities. Find objects that represent these contradictions or write the qulities on cards. Divide thos qualities into two piles. Name those two piles. One is you and one is your twin. You can create an evil twin-good twin dynamic; you can just name them Remus and Romulus, for example, or you can say this is my artistic self, this is my work self. How do you divide yourself?

Cast the Circle:

Use your mind to cast the circle.
Visualize a pale yellow circle around you and your sacred space.
Then visualize a darker yellow circle around you and your sacred space, and finally, visualize a deep yellow circle around you and your sacred space.

"A circle is cast in the darkness of Air."

Summon the Guardians and the Elementals:

Summon the East:

Dark yellow guardians of our minds and our rational selves, guard the airy gate of the East and be welcome to my sacred circle.
Airy Sylphs of the Eastern sky, join me in my sacred circle and blow away the cobwebs from my mind.

Summon the South:

Dark red guardians of our passions and of our will, guard the fiery gat of the South and be welcome to my sacred circle.
Fiery Salamanders of the Southern world, burn away the doubts in my mind and be welcome to my sacred circle.

Summon the West:

Dark blue guardians of our loves and hates, guard the watery West and be welcome to my sacred circle.
Watery Undines of Western waters, wash away the confusion of my mind and be welcome to my sacred circle.

Summon the North:

Dark green guardians of the earthy rocks and soil, guard the earthen gate of the North and join me in my sacred circle.
Earth Gnomes of silence and the dark, bury my self-crticisms in your earth and be welcome to my sacred circle.

Evoke the Goddess:

Lovely Iris, Rainbow woman, messenger of the Gods, join me in my rite.
Bring the wisdom of communication and knowledge and the beauty of the rainbow and be welcome to my sacred circle.

Evoke the God:

Zephyrus, God of the West Wind, join me in my rite.
Bring with you the gentle breezes of change, emotion, and understanding and be welcome to my sacred circle.

Center and Ground:

You are standing on the edge of the forest, you are a sapling tree.
Send your roots deep into the Mother Earth.
Feel her warmth and gentleness.
Anchor your roots on a rock that you find there, knowing that you are firmly connected to the mother.
Send your branches up into the air.
Feel the breezes gently rock you.
Reach upward and embrace the sky, the Universe of Love.
Feel the energy of the Universe reach down and embrace you.
There you are embraced by the Love of the Sky and rooted in the Love of Mother Earth.

Statement of Ritual Intent:

We are beings blessed with a mind.
Sometimes our thinking and our feeling leads us to feel confused and split into two.
Who are we really?
How can I live with thoughts that contradict one another?
I will journey within myself to find the split, to meet my twin and embrace my twin.
We are who we are.
So get to know who you are.

Meditation

Breathe in and out and center yourself.
Be comfortable and in a light trance state.
You are standing in the Dark.
Before you are two piles of paper.
You realize those are the qualities you wrote down earlier.
Concentrate on one pile and see it grow life-sized before you.
The pile takes shape and becomes your twin.
That mirror image of you is not you.
Look at the other pile and see it grow life-sized.
It move and envelops you.
You are those qualities that you identified and more.
More information comes to you about yourself.
Listen carefully to that information.
Turn now and face your twin.
See your twin as the qualities you named earlier and more.
See all that your twin is.
Do not judge yourself or your twin.
Your twin stretches out two arms and asks for an embrace.
Embrace your twin and dance together.
See how you fit together and how you move together--one seemingly so different, yet so much the same.
See yourselves fit together as two pieces of a puzzle and how you complete each other.
Merge closer until you are one.
Feel the rightness of the merging and see strengths become weaknesses and weaknesses become strengths.
See how it is all part of the One, the You.
You may wish to disconnect from your twin or you may wish to return from the meditation as a merged self.
It is up to you.
Stand while you decide.
Whatever you do, thank your other self for the connection and the disconnection.
Sometimes we learn as mcuh from what we are not as we learn from what we are.
Take two breaths and return to the here and now.
Take one more breath and open your eyes.

Raise the Cone of Power:

Take your two piles of yourself and merge them together.
Remember what you named them and begin to chant those names one after the other, over and over again.
Say it so fast you cannot distinguish between the names.
Start to move in rhythm with your chant, getting louder and faster until you feel the cone of power WHOOOSH into the universe.

Cakes and Ale:

Say a prayer of thanksgiving for your mind, for your self, and for your teachers.

Center and Ground:

Go back to that sapling tree, young and growing.
Feel the sap course through your body.
Send your consciousness down to the roots and the anchor.
Gently, ever so gently, disconnect the root from the anchor, knowing that you can always connect with the Love of the Mother.
Cast your consciousness upward to the sky.
Gently, ever so gently, disconnect yourself from the Universe, knowing that you can always connect with the Love of All that is.
You are whole within yourself, grounded and connected.

Dismiss the God:

Zephyrus, God of the Winds, thank you for the wisdom of thought, clarity of vision, and joy of living.
Thank you for your presence in my sacred rite.
Go with my thanks and my blessings.
Hail and farewell.

Dismiss the Goddess:

Delightful Iris, colourful goddess of the freshness of the new day; thank you for your presence in my sacred rite.
Go with my thanks and my blessings.
Hail and farewell.

Dismiss the Guardians and the Elementals:

Dismiss the North:

Burrowers in the Dark, elementals of the ground and underground, and Guardians of the soil and rock, thank you all for your presence in my sacred rite.
Go with my thanks and my blessings.
Hail and farewell.

Dismiss the West:

Swimmers of the watery depths and Guardians of the wave and water, thank you for your presence in my sacred rite.
Go with my thanks and my blessings.
Hail and farewell.

Dismiss the South:

Creatures of the fire and the noonday sun and Guardians of the burning passion, thank you for your presence in my sacred rite.
Go with my thanks and my blessings.
Hail and farewell.

Dismiss the East:

Creatures of the air, flying one and Guardians of the breeze and storm, thank you for your presence in my sacred rite.
Go with my thanks and my blessings.
Hail and farewell.

Open the Circle:

Visualize the circle you cast and with your mind see it disappear, going clockwise around the circle.
When it is all gone, the circle is open, but unbroken.

Blessed Be!
